Jordan Henderson ruled out of World Cup after wrist injury in celebrations

Jordan Henderson out of World Cup with broken wrist sustained in post-match celebrations

England’s memorable victory over Mexico in the World Cup round of 16, where they triumphed 3-2, was marred by an unfortunate injury to Jordan Henderson. The former Liverpool captain fell over an advertising board during the post-match festivities, leading to his hospitalization.

Though Henderson did not play in the match, he was confirmed to have sustained a broken wrist and will miss the remainder of the tournament. The incident occurred shortly after the final whistle, when England’s players approached their fans to celebrate. Medical personnel quickly attended to Henderson, who required oxygen and was eventually stretchered off the field.

Jude Bellingham shared insights on the situation, stating, “He’s in a bit of bother but our medical team have got everything under control probably. Best not to give too much detail when I don’t know too much what is going on. Everyone was there to support him and even that was a beautiful thing to see.”

Later, England’s head coach Thomas Tuchel commented on the injury, saying, “Jordan injured his wrist, it just doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is not with us. I don’t know the procedure, the doctor told me he is in the hospital.”

Henderson had received a yellow card during a contentious match due to an altercation on the sidelines. His only appearance in the tournament was as a substitute in the 84th minute of the game against Panama.

England secured their victory against Mexico with two goals from Bellingham and a penalty converted by Harry Kane. The team managed to hold on to their lead despite Jarell Quansah being sent off for a foul early in the second half.
