Colombia Faces DR Congo in Crucial World Cup Match at Estadio Guadalajara

Colombia v DR Congo: World Cup 2026 – live

Colombian players make their way to the changrooms.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates scoring their third goal.

DR Congo fan Michel Nkuka Mboladinga, also known as Lumumba Vea, arrives at the stadium.

Croatia captain Luka Modric is challenged by Carlos Harvey of Panama.

The World Cup action continues today as Colombia prepares to take on DR Congo at Estadio Guadalajara. This match is vital for both teams as they strive to advance in the tournament. Colombia, buoyed by a strong performance in their opener, looks to solidify their position in Group K.

In the earlier Group I match, England faced Ghana in a challenging encounter. Thomas Tuchel’s squad aimed to ride the momentum from their initial win against Croatia but struggled against a determined Ghanaian defense.

David Hytner reported from Boston Stadium:

“England’s idea was to maintain the momentum they had generated in the 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening Group L tie, but there was no surge here. Only stodge. England laboured to create against an ultra-defensive Ghana team, their only pulse-quickening moments coming towards the very end.”

As the match nears its conclusion, Croatia is on the verge of holding on against Panama.

Meanwhile, an email from Alejandro Borrero arrives:

“We are preparing arepas with hogao with my daughters here in Florida getting ready to see Colombia WIN! Trying to capture that homely feeling from a distance. Vamos!!”

Alejandro also shared some tempting photos of the meal, but they’re too complicated to share here. I can confirm they look delightful.

Back in Mexico, both teams have arrived at the stadium.

After struggling to find the net in Portugal’s opening match, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed palpable relief in Houston.

“There have long been question marks over his continued ability to lead Portugal on this stage, but after the final whistle he shouted into a television camera: ‘I’m back, I’m back.’”

Turning to Group K, the first match of the day featured a thrilling contest that included a disallowed goal that could have been a frontrunner for the tournament’s best.

Portugal showcased impressive finishing skills in their 5-0 rout of Uzbekistan. Nick Ames noted that the Asian team seemed “utterly unequipped” to deal with the prowess of Ronaldo and his teammates.

“Golden oldies fighting for the golden boot? Let us not get ahead of ourselves. But it will do Cristiano Ronaldo’s ego no harm that he is off the mark for this summer, particularly given Lionel Messi’s voracious appetite to keep long-burning fires ablaze. Nor will it pass unnoticed that he has broken a record of his own. In breaching Uzbekistan twice during the opening period of what quickly became a leisurely non-contest, Ronaldo became the first player to score in six editions of the World Cup.”

I invite any Colombia or DR Congo fans to share their thoughts. How are you planning to follow today’s game? You can reach me at jo.khan@.

Thanks, Martin. The other Group K match wrapped up recently, with Ronaldo declaring he’s back after Portugal’s 5-0 demolition of Uzbekistan. I will discuss that match shortly. Before that, let’s check in on the live action in Toronto, where Panama and Croatia are engaged in a tense battle. Jeff Reuter is covering that game.

Welcome to our live coverage of the World Cup clash between Colombia and DR Congo at Estadio Guadalajara. The match is set to kick off at 8pm local time, which is 11pm EDT, 3am BST, and 12pm AEST.

Colombia aims to secure their advancement after a successful opening match against Uzbekistan. Daniel Muñoz’s spectacular goal ignited the Colombian side, but they required an exceptional contribution from Luis Díaz to regain the lead after Uzbekistan equalized in the second half. Jaminton Campaz sealed the victory deep into stoppage time. A win today would put Colombia in control of Group K ahead of their upcoming match against Portugal in Miami.

DR Congo also made a strong impression by earning their first-ever World Cup point in a match against the highly rated Portugal. A victory against Colombia would almost guarantee their progression to the round of 32, while a draw would position them favorably before facing Uzbekistan. Veteran forward Cédric Bakambu delivered a commendable performance, but it was Yoane Wissa who equalized just before halftime, ensuring DR Congo kept Portugal at bay with their solid defense.

I will return later with the line-ups and live updates. For now, Jo Khan will provide all the pre-match analysis and the latest World Cup news. Feel free to email Jo with any questions, thoughts, or predictions as we gear up for an exciting match!
