FIFA Imposes Two-Match Suspension on Jarell Quansah After Red Card

Jarell Quansah handed two-match ban by Fifa for sending off against Mexico

Jarell Quansah will miss two World Cup matches due to a red card issued during England’s last-16 triumph over Mexico on Sunday.

The dismissal resulted from a VAR review, which flagged a sliding tackle on Jesus Gallardo as serious foul play. Consequently, FIFA has enforced a two-game suspension based on Article 14 of their code of conduct.

England had been considering an appeal regarding Quansah’s red card, particularly in light of FIFA’s recent decision to lift Folarin Balogun’s one-match suspension, allowing him to play in the upcoming quarter-final against Norway. However, as a result of this ruling, Quansah will not only be absent for that match but also for the semi-final, should England advance, against either Argentina or Switzerland.

Right-Back Crisis for England

England faces a predicament at the right-back position, especially with Reece James uncertain due to ongoing injury concerns. To address this issue, Ezri Konsa may transition from his central defensive role to fill in at right-back for the clash against Norway.
