In an exhilarating start to their World Cup campaign, South Korea rallied from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory over Czechia in Group A. The decisive goal came from substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu, who found the net in the 80th minute.
Despite missing several opportunities, South Korea’s captain Son Heung-min played a pivotal role. The Czech team, against the run of play, took the lead in the 59th minute when Ladislav Krejci scored with a header following a long throw-in. However, the advantage was short-lived as Hwang In-beom calmly equalized eight minutes later, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper.
The Czechs believed they had reclaimed the lead when Tomas Soucek headed home from a free kick in the 77th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Just moments later, South Korea turned the tables as Hwang assisted Oh, who finished from close range to give his team the lead.
